Honey - The Difference Between Organic and Conventional

This sweet glistening liquid is found in most Australian cupboards. Most people have often wondered what the difference is between conventional and organic honey. Here are a few facts that may open your eyes about this ancient commodity.

Conventional Honey
Short supply of honey in Australia means honey packaged under an Australian brand does not mean it has been produced here (and often not clear on the labelling). There is concern of the fact that imported honey is produced in genetically engineered crops (Argentina is a major producer of GE canola and other flowering GE crops). GE crops in Australia pose a threat to both conventional and organic honey production. Using antibiotics in bee keeping is common to treat disease and chemical bee repellents are used. Heat treating is also common in conventional honey production and there is no limit on the temperature to which honey can be exposed. Supermarket's do not like honey crystallising on the shelves although this a natural occurrence and a good sign that it's untainted, we often think when honey crystallises it has gone off. Heat treating keeps the honey clear and runny and destroys some of the delicate anti-oxidants and enzymes that are naturally present in honey.

Organic

Organic Honey
Certified Organic beekeepers are required to ensure their hives are a safe distance from anything that can contaminate the honey, such as garbage dumps, livestock watering troughs, urban areas, golf courses, conventional orchards and crops, and GE crops. Although bees don't require feeding, in bad conditions (particularly cold periods), some feeding using organic sugar or sugar syrup is used. No chemical bee repellents are used, but natural methods (such as burning leaf litter). Unlike conventional bees, organic bees are unable to be treated with antibiotics or other conventional veterinary methods. Heat treatment of organic honey cannot exceed 45 degrees C.

Health Benefits
Apart from having a superior flavour, organic honey oozes a range of health benefits. A carbohydrate, it provides energy at a reasonable steady rate with a glycaemic index (GI) rating in the moderate range. Nutritionally superior to sugar, honey contains enzymes, vitamins, minerals and free radical antioxidants.

Heart Disease - What Is The Difference Between Organic Heart Disease And Degenerative Heart Disease?

Although Heart Disease is the main cause of death in the Western World it is amazing how little the general public actually know about it.

For example very few people realize that there isn't just one type of Heart Disease. In fact there are at least ten different types and these fall into two distinct categories - Organic and Degenerative.

Organic

The major difference between Organic and Degenerative Heart Disease is their causes.

Heart Disease - What Is The Difference Between Organic Heart Disease And Degenerative Heart Disease?

Organic refers to a situation where the organ (the heart) is damaged by a specific event. This can also be referred to as "acute", which simply means that it happened suddenly or over a short period of time. Degenerative Heart Disease (sometimes referred to as "chronic") is caused by gradual deterioration over a long period of time.

There are two types of Organic H.D. - Congenital and Rheumatic .

Defects that occur at birth are classed as Congenital Heart Disease. These may affect the heart itself : it may not have developed normally during pregnancy, the wall of the heart may be damaged (hole in the heart), or the blood vessels may be underdeveloped. These defects may be hereditary or more likely have been caused by external factors such as drugs or infection during pregnancy. They are normally diagnosed at birth or in early childhood but it is not uncommon for the symptoms to occur for the first time in adulthood..

Rheumatic Heart Disease can be the result of a bout of rheumatic fever. Occurrences have decreased considerably due to the use of antibiotics to treat rheumatic fever.

There are at least eight specific diseases, which fall into the category of Degenerative Heart Disease. The common factors within this category are that the disease has progressed gradually and that there is no specific event that has caused it.

The vast majority of people who are diagnosed with Heart Disease have some form of degenerative heart disease. This is the form of disease that is the target of the awareness campaigns and is the type that we can help to prevent by our lifestyles choices.

The Relation Between Age and Learning Ability

A doctrine that we commonly hear working in any organization is "You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks". How to talk about this myth, is it false or true? Do the learning abilities decrease as one gets older? There is a simple answer "No" to this complex question.

Relation between Age and learning ability is not always inversely proportional. Learning can be halted at any age, but anyone who keeps learning stays young. There must be a limit for learning ability but a saga that some memory loss occurs when someone is getting older is an exaggerated fact. Age can't be a hindrance for people to learn new methods and techniques. A widespread ambiance held in number of organizations around the world is that older employees are resistant to change, inflexible, unwilling to adopt any new method and defiant to be trained as compared to their younger corresponding persons. But according to a research point of view, this perception is more than wrong.

It is evident, that older workers (50 and above) are forced to be less confident about their learning abilities due to certain social stress. It seems that older workers are somewhat less efficient in taking challenges, average on acquiring complex and demanding skills and much slower in sorting out problems and giving solutions. That is why they need more time to be trained. But once they are trained they prove to be a better asset than their counterparts for the company as they are proficient in transferring their experience and knowledge to the job.

Wisdom is defined as accumulated learning; knowledge, better insight and better judgment capability are qualities that can be gained well through experience with time. Age actually develops some rational abilities such as outlines for better solutions and expert knowledge. Being old does not always mean to be wiser or have a better degree of insight, but a person must have accumulation of certain qualities that can be gained only through experience of living and learning. This ability to acquire knowledge, skills and capability to perform up to a certain mark is called "Trainability". A number of individual characteristics such as less motivation and low ability to cope up with challenging environment have been found to hamper learning and its further conclusions. However, age has not been found a cause to influence these outcomes. In fact, older age brings more experience. Still, the stereotypes exist.
